Healthy Living is Taking Over

Hey NeverEver's!

Welcome to Sunday!! My internal clock is so off. I was thinking that yesterday was Sunday and today was Monday. Which is a nice because I really didn't want it to be Monday! Of course no one really looks forward to Monday...unless its a 3 day weekend ^_~.

So I have been thinking lately...okay actually the idea came to me about 10 minutes ago but who is keeping record of this ^_^. But, I have been thinking about how, without me even thinking about it, healthy choices have become apart of my life. Of course I am still working at it. But here is how Healthy Choices have invaded my life, for the good ^_^.

  • Soda is now WAY to sweet for me and I get an upset stomach if I have more then 2 sips.
  • I went to Panda Express on Friday and instead of getting a normal 2 plate I went with the bowl and still couldn't eat it.
  • I don't feel right if I don't get some type of exercise in that day. Even if its just walking around the neighborhood
  • The only snacks in the house is fruits, veggies and yogurt and light cottage cheese (still loving it)
  • I end up making my own parfait instead of buying one.
  • Salads are pretty yummy
  • Breakfast is so important! Plus it makes it for the whole day!
  • Water, Tea's, Juices have become my go to drinks.
  • I have been planning my social events around running events
And these are the ones that I have been thinking about. It still surprising me that this is really taking over my life. It is a good thing. It is a great thing! It just shows that making the small changes really do take over your everything in your life.

I am really looking forward to my Weigh In for tomorrow! I have been feeling very confident and my clothes are definitely getting looser! So I will be seeing you tomorrow!

Maintain an Active Lifestyle

Hey NeverEver's!

Welcome to Monday and I hope you are having a great one! Today I was lucky enough to get a Guest Poster!! Her name is Michelle Pino and this is her post.

Nearly every person tries to find ways to improve their health and well-being. However, most folks find it
difficult to make the time for a trip to the gym or the time needed to prepare a healthy meal. In today’s fast paced society, you must find creative ways to get your exercise and stay fit. With simple tips, you can turn everyday activities into easy, calorie burning exercises.

First, start your day off right with some light stretching. Before you get out of bed in the morning, take a few minutes to stretch your arms, legs, and back. Once you hop out of bed, you can do a few more stretches for your arms, legs and back to get your blood flowing. Not only will this energize you, but you will feel ready to tackle the day.

Another great tip to get a little movement during your day is to find a great parking spot. Not right in front of the building however, but as far away as possible. This will give you a chance to get a nice walk in before you head into work. A few extra minutes of walking will help to keep your legs and joints in shape.

For most people, a day at the office can be very sedentary. However, that can easily change. If you need to speak to a coworker, instead of calling them, take a stroll to their desk. Also, if you work on an upper floor, opt for the stairs instead of the elevator. These simple steps help to improve your health in the long run.

A common tip that many folks use at the office is eating at their desk. If you take a sandwich for lunch and can finish quickly, that gives you time to take a stroll outside. A breath of fresh air in the middle of the day is a great way to feel rejuvenated and reset the mind.

Finally, a great tip for promoting a healthier lifestyle is, while at home for the evening, take a short walk around your neighborhood. This will give you some exercise, but it will also get you some fresh air and sunshine, both of which are proven mood boosters. Plus, you will get a chance to chat with neighbors, and unwind from the hectic workday.

Here are just a few ways to promote a healthier lifestyle with minimum effort. These simple steps will help you to stay on track of your goal.

You can also use Inspiration boards. They have become very popular yet highly effective way to organize your thoughts when taking on a new project. They are commonly used to plan weddings, home improvement projects and vacations, so why not use one for your fitness goals?

A “Fitspiration board" can be used to visualize your goals in a tangible form, enabling your mind and body to come together more effectively to create the changes you want to see in your physique. Here are some easy steps to help you get started.

1. Begin collecting images of people, places, experiences, or things - anything that inspires you to lead a fit lifestyle.

2. Look through everything you’ve collected and choose an anchor image. What themes do you notice in your collection?

3. Begin placing the other pictures you’ve selected around your anchor image. Your images may be very similar or all over the place depending on your style, and that’s ok. Everyone is different!

4. Reflect on what you have created. How does it make you feel?

5. Look through your notes and make adjustments to your fitspiration board accordingly.

6. You’ll know your board is "fitspirational" when you haven’t wanted to make any changes to it for at least a week. Make sure to keep it in a prominent place so you will see it often.

Here is an example:

Part of my own initiative to live a healthier lifestyle is to take better care of my body. As I get older I’m learning better ways to protect myself from harmful UV rays, unlike when I was younger and would sunbathe with baby oil. Yikes! Problem is, I love the sun: to compromise, I bought a pair of sunglasses that protects against UVA & UVB rays (similar to the one pictured from Style Bop) to help shield my eyes. Wearing sunglasses can help prevent sun damage to your eyes that could cause cataracts.

Make eating healthy food fun and exciting! Creative ways to make healthy food more enticing like these fruit skewers is a fun way to help us enjoy healthy foods. These fruit skewers are a great example for party appetizer for a summer barbeque: a great alternative to chips and dips.

Personally, I am not a super athletic person. I’ve always been a believer in It is doing what makes you feel good. So if walking and bike riding is your thing, go for it! Golf is a great example. I’ve been taking lessons near my work at NY golf course, Shenendoah, as a way to add variety to my normal routine. Doing the same old boring routine, is an easy way to lose motivation and “fall off the wagon”. Golf is great because not only is it less strenuous physical activity, but you also are able to enjoy the outdoors and walk, a lot. To me, there’s no better feeling than enjoying the outdoors.

Tip: Make sure what is on the board is what you really want. Taking the time to create and maintain a fitspiration board is a fun yet powerful way to keep you motivated on the path towards the fit lifestyle you’re yearning for.

Daily Stats & Offered to be Guest Blogger

Hey NeverEver's,

I just realized that I didn't include the Daily Stats on Sunday's post. Oop's! Sorry everyone! Not that is was that great really...had one to make desserts.

But it is extremely important to me! I am sharing my weight loss journey here on this blog which means I am sharing the good, the bad and the ugly. I am in no way perfect nor do I have this Healthy Life figured out. However, I do feel that I am gaining my balance and am striving to show that here.

Hopefully, some of you follow me on either Facebook or Twitter, even if you don't say that you do for me ^_^. But, if you do follow me you say this little nugget of info

Now with BodyMedia, you can customize your stats to help you reach the goal you want! I picked this one which is:
Daily Burn Goal: 2500
Daily Calorie Consumption Goal: 1500
Weekly Pound Lost Goal: 2
Starting Weight: 203
Ending Weight: 125

That really isn't anything new on my 'goals' for weight loss. But what really surprised me was the Goal Weight date...which was 7/22/2013.

To me that isn't far away...I thought it had made a mistake. I even did the math myself (I really really don't like math) but it was correct! By sticking to this plan I will be at my Goal Weight of 125 in July! I am looking forward to making this into a reality!

Now on to my missed Daily Stats!

Daily Stat Day 86:

Hubby and I went out on Friday Night to head over to Islands Burgers. Very yummy...not so calorie friendly!

Daily Stats Day 87:

Saturday was a completely lazy day, with a surprise trip to Fresh & Easy to get some supplies for the soups! Not to disappointed in this day to tell the truth!

Daily Stats Day 88:

Sunday...well after the post was made Hubby and I went to go see Paranormal 4 (which was awesome and horrible all at the same time!) plus stop over at BJ's (pizza which was yummy, but I forgot the leftover's there) to watch the last of the NL games. So, as you can see BJ's is worse than Islands!

Okay so Monday was a new day! Went to the gym after work, mainly cause I was stressing from some family drama, but hey I wasn't by the time I got out of the gym!

Plus, I got requested to do a post as a Guest Blogger! I am extremely excited about this opportunity and am doing a little freak out about it to.

Can't wait to share more with you all about it as well!

Okay NeverEver's, I have to finish some laundry (yay) so see you all tomorrow!

10 Tips to Eating Out and Still be Healthy

Hey NeverEver's

Today's post is all about being able to go out and not ruin your Healthy Living Plan! After eating out this weekend I felt that it was important to look up a few tips to eating out and not ruining your plan. Here are a few tips that I picked up;

  1. Try to plan ahead. Know where you are going so you can look up the menu items online. This is important so you know exactly what you are ordering so you don't veer off course.
  2. The more color you have on your plate the healthier it is.
  3. If the portion you want is to big, then before taking a bite of it ask for a 'to go bag' and place half of your meal in there. That way you have a lunch for tomorrow and you don't over eat that night!
  4. Try to look for these words 'Steamed', 'Boiled', 'Grilled'. And stay away from 'Fried' or 'Sauteed'!
  5. Don't eat to fast. You want to take your time so you know when you are full!
  6. Want Protein? Try ordering these leaner cuts of beef, strip, tenderloin, or flank steak.
  7. Having dinner but don't want the heavy dinner entree's? Try having the Lunch Portions.
  8. Try to do some healthier swaps. Having Breakfast, try getting 'Egg Whites' or 'Wheat or Whole-Grained Toast'. Lunch? try to ask for 'Brown Rice'.
  9. Try and stay away from Soda's. Instead get some water, iced tea, or lemonade. However, even with those drinks watch the sugar intake.
  10. Be careful of what some restaurants are saying is 'Light' or 'Low Calorie'. Sometimes if its low calorie its high in carbs, sugar or sodium. So read those descriptions and if you don't know then ask!
Doesn't that look yummy!

Well that is my 10 tip list. If you want to read more about it I recommend;

So get out there and enjoy life NeverEver's!

Daily Stats: Day 14

Hey NeverEver's!

I hope your Monday was less stressful then mine! Had the first meeting with my new boss today. To talk over what was done in the past week, especially since she was gone for a lot of last week. So needless to say it was a kind of stressful day.

I was able to make it to the gym...if only to find that I didn't have any socks for my gym shoes. So today was a weight only type of day. I couldn't necessarily do my cardio in heels. Although, I have heard there is a marathon for woman in heels. Not sure if that is something we should be running in but hey more power to them who run in those things...I can barely walk.

Anyways, here is my Daily Stats;

I again need to work on more sleep!
I did forget to weigh myself today, which was silly because its Monday and its my weigh day. But I will weigh myself tomorrow promise NeverEver's!

So NeverEver's...I found that it was very important to have socks for my shoes. What have you found necessary to have at the gym?

Day 7: A Zumba Workout and Weigh In Day

Hey NeverEver's!

I hope you all had an awesome weekend and an even better Manic Monday! So as it is Monday I want to do 2 things especially today.

First, I want to thank everyone who is reading this blog. So far it has been 1 week of writing and working out! It has been amazing see the stats go up and figuring out how and what to write. Thank each and everyone of you!

Second, today is my Weigh In Day! So as you all know I started off at 213 and with my weigh in today I am at...I wish I could add drum rolls to this as a sound track, but anyways...211.5! I am so happy that I went over my expected 1 pound a week and went to 1.5!

Okay so my workout today was Zumba Fitness at 24 HourFitness Compton Sport. Let me say...they just don't dance in there. They MOVE! I do plan to do a post ALL about Zumba and how it took the fitness world by storm not to long ago. But for now...I will say that I will be feeling this cardio workout for a while! I also can't wait to do it again.
Also, before my Zumba class started, I had to get there an hour early just to reserve a spot, I went to do some Weights. Just working my arms with the machines and dumbbells. So today was an awesome day with a perfect cardio burn and some weights.

So here is my stats for today;

Zumba really kicked my Calorie Burn WAYYY Up!

I am sure you can see why I am happy with today's workout and stats!

Just as an update on my personal life. I am starting a new job tomorrow, Tuesday, but I see no reason for it to effect this blog. In fact I see myself working out more because less then a mile from where I work, Huntington Beach, is a 24 Hour Fitness!

Okay NeverEver's...when was your best day ever on a workout? or Healthy Eating? Did it make you want to do the same thing the next day? Or did you push yourself to hard that day that you just couldn't get up the next? I really want to hear from you!

Night all NeverEver's!

Workout of the Day: Walking VS Jogging

Hey NeverEver's!

Okay so I will admit...I don't like jogging...or running for that matter. I like walking for long distances at a steady pace! So it got me wondering, in the long term which is better for the body...walking or jogging.

Here is what I came up with:

  1. If you are prone to injury, i.e falling or tripping, or have a knee / back issue Walking is probably better for you.
    1. Walking +1
  2. You 'should' burn more calories in a shorter amount of time while Jogging then if you did the same time while Walking
    1. Jogging +1
  3. Walkers weigh much less then non-walkers, according to a Harvard 15-year study.
    1. Walking +1
  4. Jogging is good for you in terms of 'Cardio-Respiratory Fitness', this is the 'ability of your heart to pump stronger and more efficiently and your muscles to use oxygen more efficiently. (Non Medical Meaning? Basically that you are gonna help your heart keep pumping for a longer time!)
    1. Jogging +1
So Walking or Jogging shoes today?

It seems pretty even doesn't it. An even 2 & 2. So I think it all comes down to how well you can 'jog' and if it feels right to you. If you don't like jogging, join the club, then go for a walk. Just know that you do need to walk for a longer period of time to have the same burn that joggers get in a shorter time.

Oh and one other thing NeverEver's! Distance is important. If you can't do 1 mile yet work your way up to it! You can take several walk/jogs during the day, or do an interval, which some say is the best way to lose weight, walk, then jog, then walk again.

What is important is to just get out there and MOVE!!

Here is what I found on the internet that is a good read on this subject!

Snack of the Day: Cottage with a Peach

Hey NeverEver's!

So today's snack of the day has to be extremely healthy yet filling...because I was a genius and forgot my lunch at home! Thank goodness I left this snack here from yesterday at work.
Not mine...but doesn't it look yummy?!?

I really am not centered today, because not only do I forget my lunch at home...but before I can take a picture of my snack, it wasn't as nice as the one above, I eat all of the delicious snack. So here is where the picture comes from Here!

Now I use 2% cottage cheese. I never really use any other. For 1 cup, which is A LOT, it is only 194 calories. Of course a peach, great water fruit, is only 59 calories.

So for a yummy, cooling, healthy snack, unless your lactose intolerant, have some Cottage Cheese and a Peach!

Workout of the Day: Walk in the Park

Hello Again NeverEver's!

So as you know yesterday I went to 24 hour fitness Les Mills Body Pump and it kicked my slight larger then average ass. So when I woke up this morning, I was feeling sore. So I decided that I would take it a little easier today and go walking!

Well walking turned into slow jogging! So it turned into a bigger workout then it was originally going to be. I took a pic with my iTouch, sorry that it looks a little blurry.

Pretty Yellow Sunset @ The Lynwood Park
So of course I will be posting my daily results. I am very satisfied with today's results!

So NeverEver's today was a hit day for me! How was yours?

First Post

Welcome to NeverEverBeenSkinny!

This is my first blog and after gathering a lot of information from the internet, I decided to write about something that is extremely important to me. Weight Loss and Healthy Living.

As you can guess by the title I have NeverEverBeenSkinny, and this is something that I am incredibly ashamed of. I have no idea what it means to be in clothes that aren't in the double digits or to know what exactly 'healthy' food is.

This is what I want to do with this little spot on the internet. I want to record my Weight Loss journey and how I have finally taken control of my life and my weight. I am starting this blog to not only keep myself accountable but to reach out to everyone who feels the same way I do.

So here is some background information and what I am planning on using on this Weight Loss journey!

I am a 23 year old female, currently weighing in at 214. This is the heaviest I have ever been.

Las Vegas for my 2nd Anniversary to the Hubby!
Weight Loss Helpers:
1. 24 Hour Fitness Gym Membership
2. Good sneakers for long walks
3. BodyMedia
4. Camera to take pictures of my food

So welcome again to NeverEverBeenSkinny! Stick around and enjoy the changes ahead!
